Thanks for asking! I'm in the early stages of serializing my travel memoir about buying land, building a house and opening a bookstore in Mexico. I've condensed it a bit and am now considering adding the Paid option to my stack. Alternating memoir posts w/ content that I usually write about--travel, current MX events, the Maya, history etc.
Great post, Mike and Hannah. I faced a quite similar process. I started my Substack in January 2023, writing 3 posts per week, as I was enthusiastic with my new life. However, to conciliate work, travel, social life, writing, rest, was a tough mission, so now I write once a week and it's a perfect frequency. Some weeks I struggle with myself to keep running, we really need to abandon the perfectionism and to have in mind some posts will be better than others, and it's okay. My creative process is also like the same: I have a list of topics and write when the inspiration comes. As we are continuosly traveling and chatting and living different experiences new ideas sprout and some old ones wait the appropriate moment to be presented to the readers. Let's keep in touch!
Wow 3 times a week indeed sounds like a lot, but great to hear that you found your stride now.
Agreed, some weeks the writing goes super easy, and the next week you're stuck for a few days, we just have to get used to it and work around it. Let's keep in touch indeed :)
I can't believe it's been 6 months already! I genuinely love reading your blogs ❤️ Not only do I love traveling, but the way you guys write the blogs makes them so easy and fun to read. The diverse topics and lovely pictures truly make me look forward to your email every week 🤗 Do you sit down to write each blog every week or do you sometimes write multiple in one week to plan ahead?
Your support means so much!! We're glad to hear our weekly drop-bys are something you look forward to 🥺❤️ And even though we'd like to say we have posts written out weeks in advance, that is not the case (yet? 🤞🏻). So far, the writing is spread out over the week leading up to Saturday's post. The upside is, however, that we stick to the habit of writing and don't have to "get back" into that flow.
As one of first and fiercest readers, we'd love to hear which topics you'd like to see more of - which posts stood out that really helped you, gave you a good laugh, or gave you a good dose of travel inspiration? We'd love to give you even more favorites to look back on 🥰
Ohhh that's so difficult to choose! I have a few favorites: Mike's diving, Hannah's yes-theory, Lapland (of course!) and the throwback to favorite trips with different categories. I personally love the cost breakdowns and the honesty of each blog.
Exactly! Those bursts of inspiration are amazing whenever we experience new things, but we can’t rely on them every week. In those moments we have to write from the goal of simply being consistent, having built a habit, and refusing to let go of it. Even when it gets tough.
Congratulations on your 6 month anniversary!!
Thank you! Any milesstones you have celebrated recently, or anything fun coming up? :)

Oh wow that sounds super interesting. Good luck with all of your goals. I'm curious to hear what your experience is like when you add the Paid option
Yes, tiptoeing in! Thanks.
